Enrollment and teachers
The state counted 1,890 students at Cross Keys in its 2025 School Grades data. The most recent federal figure, from the NCES directory for the 2023-24 school year, is 1,768 students and 119 full-time-equivalent teachers, about 14.9 students per teacher.
The district’s own enrollment and capacity table, on its planning page and updated Oct. 1, 2026, lists Cross Keys at 1,586 students in a building with a capacity of 1,271.
The new building
The district broke ground on Aug. 28, 2025, on an expansion and modernization of the 1958 building, according to its groundbreaking story. The $148,421,607 project is paid for by the voter-approved E-SPLOST sales tax and was approved by the Board of Education on March 10, 2025. It adds an auditorium, an athletic complex with a new baseball field and a new main entrance, and remodels the media center, cafeteria and parent drop-off area. That story said the work is scheduled to be finished by the 2028-29 school year; the district’s Student Assignment Project page lists the modernized school as opening in fall 2027.

Attendance zone
Zones are set by the district and do not follow city limits. Check any address with the district’s school locator. Laying the district’s 2026-27 zone map over the Census Bureau’s city boundary, about 22% of Brookhaven’s land is zoned for Cross Keys: a band across the south of the city around North Druid Hills Road and Buford Highway. Most of the rest of the city is zoned for Chamblee High, and the southern tip for Druid Hills High.
Under the district’s cluster feeder patterns, Cross Keys is fed by Sequoyah Middle School, 3456 Aztec Road, whose zone is split between Cross Keys and Chamblee High. The elementary schools in the Cross Keys cluster are Cary Reynolds, Dresden, John Lewis, Montclair and Woodward. The school’s own feeder schools page lists only Cary Reynolds and Woodward.
Rezoning under study: Cross Keys is one of six clusters in the district’s Fall 2026 Student Assignment Project, which is redrawing zones for overcrowded schools before new and expanded buildings open from 2027 to 2029, including Cross Keys High, a new Dresden elementary, a new Sequoyah Middle and a new Sequoyah High. The district says no recommendations have been made and the Board of Education will consider them in December 2026. The district’s next public comment sessions on the project are set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, at Druid Hills Middle School and 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at Dunwoody High School. No rezoning affecting Cross Keys has been approved.
